The SSP story (linked here two issues ago) is getting even more interesting. They apparently decided not to switch to their secondary datacenter in order to avoid losing up to fifteen minutes’ worth of data, instead taking a week+ outage.

SSP accused of making 'wrong call' over decision not to use secondary data centre after outage
SSP has a backup data centre that wasn’t used when an outage occurred last week because of concerns that a modest amount of data would be lost, Post understands.
Normally in the event of an outage, service will seamlessly transfer to the secondary ‘mirror' data centre - which is identical to the main site in terms of hardware and operating capacity.
